Arum House is a bright apartment facing Villa Ada, the second biggest public park in Rome. The restoration has been directed by Studio Strato, an architecture studio founded in Rome in 2007 by the architects Martino Fraschetti and Vincenzo Tattolo. The main aim of the project is to create a communication between the internal and the external spaces.
The house plan, developed on two levels of an historical building, was fragmented in many tiny rooms connected by a corridor.
The Studio decided to expand the living environment as much as possible, creating greater harmony within the home.
The staircase
An important characteristic staple to the house is played by the staircase at the center of the living room. It is a custom piece created in raw lamellar larch and later lacquered on site. On one side, next to the pillar, a slim library is established in full height with a white structure and glass shelves.
The stained glass window
As the other furniture, the stain glass window overlooking the greenhouse is custom and made by a 6x6cm structure in larch wood lacquered on site. This structure is customized to embrace the fireplace that overlooks the living room and separates the living area from the small greenhouse with a bookcase that leads to the outdoor area.
Wardarobes
The wardrobes in the sleeping area are characterized by a micro-perforated facade given by the masonite used for the doors and drawers. The handles are recessed and round in shape. The interiors, equipped with LED lighting and a presence sensor, are made of larch melamine.
Bookcase
The bookcase formed by horizontal shelves and vertical uprights in poplar plywood 30 mm thick acts as a background to the living room area.
